TVET course information for school students
If you are a secondary-school student in Year 11 or 12, you can study selected TAFE subjects that contribute to your HSC. These are called TAFE delivered vocational HSC courses, or TVET.
All TVET courses count as units towards your HSC and nationally accredited qualifications. Not only do TVET courses teach you skills that give you a head start in a career, but they can also be used as a foot in the door to further study at TAFE NSW or university. Some TVET courses such as accounting and other industry curriculum frameworks, including electrotechnology and hospitality, also count towards your UAI.
How you can benefit from doing a TVET course
- More interesting HSC study choices in Years 11 and 12.
- Gain training and qualifications that can get you a job.
- Learn skills that employers want.
- Count TVET towards your HSC.
- Some TVET subjects may count towards your UAI.
- Earn two sets of credentials – from TAFE NSW and the NSW Board of Studies.
- Use the TVET as credit if you study at TAFE NSW after school so you don’t need to repeat subjects.
- Learn in an adult environment.
