TAFE for schools

If you're a secondary school student and want to get ahead in your career before you graduate, consider studying with us. Our TAFE for schools programs include a range of study options such as school-based apprenticeships and trainineeships and TAFE to university pathways.

Whether your choose one of our 60 TVET courses or an apprenticeship/traineeship, you'll train in industry standard facilities with teachers who are industry experts. To learn more about our TAFE for schools programs visit our TVET and Trade Schools information.

From January 2010, a new law in NSW requires students to complete school to Year 10 and then to continue in either full-time education, training, paid employment, or a combination of these until you are at least 17 years of age. Click here for more detailed information.

Trade schools

Trade Schools are a new NSW government initiative building on the success of TVET programs and using TAFE NSW links with industry. Trade schools tackle skill shortages in targeted key areas, bringing schools together with industry. We have 3 trade schools, located at Randwick, St George and Sutherland -Gymea.

As a Trade School student you can complete your HSC at the same time as doing a part-time apprenticeship or traineeship in your chosen trade. Trade schools offer you the chance to have it all – you can finish your HSC, earn a part time training wage and work your way towards a nationally recognised TAFE trade qualification. Learn more about our trade schools.

TVET

If you are a secondary-school student in Year 11 or 12, you can study selected TAFE subjects that contribute to your HSC. These are called TAFE delivered vocational HSC courses, or TVET.

TVET allows you to complete a vocational qualification up to Certificate II level at TAFE while you finish your HSC.  TVET students get to spend half a day each week at TAFE.

Our colleges offer a wide range of TVET courses  – there are over 60 TVET courses available – in areas such as tourism, construction, business and many more. Learn more about our TVET program.
