What is a traineeship or apprenticeship?
Traineeships and apprenticeships are jobs that combine work and training for the career you want. You are paid a training wage while you learn on-the-job skills with an employer and through your Sydney Institute training courses.

What’s the difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships cover a wide range of traditional trades such as automotive, hairdressing, carpentry and plumbing. Traineeships are available in business, child care, hospitality, real estate, tourism and many other careers.

What are the benefits of traineeships and apprenticeships?
You earn while you learn and gain work skills in a real workplace. When you finish, you've got a minimum of 12 months’ work experience on your resume and a nationally recognised qualification. They are a great way to start your career or jump into a new one!

Traineeships are usually for one to two years. Most apprenticeships are for four years. We also offer short intensive programs over six to eight weeks that qualify you to move straight into the second year of an apprenticeship.

There is no maximum age limit to being a trainee or apprentice. The minimum age is 16 except in certain hospitality traineeships where you will be serving alcohol (minimum age 18).

How do I get a traineeship or apprenticeship?
Find an employer who will take you on as a trainee or apprentice. You can approach an employer yourself or you can approach organisations that match jobs with employers. You will need to be signed up by a representative from a New Apprenticeship Centre.
