Course Description
This qualification is for persons who want to extend and refine their existing skills as practising artists, or seek employment in an arts-related enterprise.You will acquire a core of professional and studio support skills that are essential to survival in the art world, including research and evaluation, use of new media, arts industry practices, art criticism, theory and history, portfolio preparation and exhibition practices, and creative use of media, tools and equipment You will create a body of unique work and portfolio supported by a visual journal and art theory. At Gymea campus you will specialise in one of the following fine arts areas: ceramics, sculpture or glass. Career Opportunities

Diploma of Fine Arts or equivalent (for example a Diploma of Ceramics, or Diploma of Photoimaging, or Diploma of Visual and Cultural Arts with completed specialisation studies in a relevant art form).
Selection Criteria
Selection criteria are considerations which are applied where demand for a course exceeds available places. All students must meet entry requirements to be eligible for entry in a course BEFORE selection criteria are applied.Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria: 1. Your ability to complete the qualification, demonstrated by your: a. previous education and training achievements in the art form major b. grades of pass in previous studies c. quality of work d. paid or unpaid, work experience or participation in the fine arts, and e. life and community experience. 2. Why you want to do the qualification and how it is relevant to your career plans or personal goals. 3. Any further evidence in support of your application. Selection Method
Selection methods are the tools used to evaluate students against the selection criteria. Your selection into this course will be based on the information that provided on the TAFE NSW Application Form and ranked on the following:Your work: You must present examples of work demonstrating satisfactory research and presentation skills in the major art form or discipline area of intended study. This should comprise a Portfolio containing at least seven (7) examples of original art form work, or high quality images and at least 5 original drawings or high quality images of such. The portfolio can be A1 in size and must contain the original works, or photographs of the original works (preferably in 8x10 format), or 35mm slides or digital images or web site. Photographs may be used where the original is unavailable or difficult to transport or present - such as original installations, performance, large scale or three-dimensional works. The portfolio work should indicate creative aptitude and conceptual capacity, skills and abilities in the intended major area of fine arts, plus the ability to cope with both drawing and theory. A panel of teachers will assess the portfolio and drawing(s). You will have the opportunity to discuss your portfolio work and any prior relevant study, experience, interest or activities in the fine arts field which would support your application. You should be prepared to discuss any benefits you would gain from doing the course and any personal qualities which would assist your work as an artist or which would help you gain employment in the fine arts industry. You must contact the arts and media section of the campus at which you want to apply to find out the dates for portfolio submission, drawing, interview and any additional portfolio requirements such as specifications for digital formats. 1) The TAFE NSW fee is payable for each year of enrolment. A TAFE year consists of two semesters of 18 weeks. The minimum TAFE NSW Fee for a course is based on one semester, even if the course duration is less than 18 weeks. If the course runs from 18 weeks to a year, it counts as two semesters and you may pay the TAFE NSW Fee in two half-yearly payments. If you choose to pay the TAFE NSW fee in two instalments, the first instalment must be paid at enrolment and the second must be paid by 31 May. Note:If you commence a course in semester 2 and your course duration is more than 18 weeks you will be required to pay the relevant TAFE NSW fee for 1 semester. A Fee Notification will be sent to you. You may pay the TAFE NSW fee by EFTPOS, Visa card, Mastercard, cheque or money order. NO CASH is accepted.2) If you receive a government benefit such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, or Sickness Allowance and provide proof at enrolment, you may be eligible for a TAFE NSW concession of $51 per course enrolment per year. Students in receipt of a Disability Support Pension and students with a disability who are Clients of a teacher Consultant are entitled to one full fee exemption for one TAFE NSW course per year and are eligible for the $51 Concession fee for subsequent enrolments in that year. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students are exempt from paying the TAFE NSW Fee. 3) In addition to the TAFE NSW fee, some programs have Course Related Charges associated with them. Course Related Charges cover the cost of materials, resources, equipment and services used in your program. If your circumstances do not enable you to pay this charge you will need to speak with your teacher when you commence class to negotiate alternative arrangements. Articulation
When you finish this program you can apply for advanced standing or credit transfer into other TAFE NSW arts and media programs or university degree programs.Please refer to the Career Pathway brochure to review career options and educational progression. Recognition
TAFE NSW recognises skills and knowledge gained through previous studies, the workplace and life experience which may allow you to complete your qualification faster. You may be entitled to recognition that will exempt you from one or more modules, up to 100% of the requirements for a course award. There is no fee for processing recognition applications for current TAFE NSW students.
