Saving water for future generations

Sydney Institute - water saving initiatives
Reductions in water use through partnerships, better practice and uptake of new technologies means that Sydney Institute has reduced water use by over a third since 2000.

Partnerships

The Institute has partnered with Sydney Water through their Every Drop Counts program to reduce water use across the Institute.

Monitoring

Live water monitoring has been rolled out across the Sydney Institute’s Colleges to detect leaks and extra ordinary usage.

Projects

The Institute is reducing reliance on mains water through a variety of projects:
  • Plumbing classes at Gymea are using rain water and recycling water for plumbing projects
  • Permaculture gardens at St George are watered using rain water
  • Fashion design at St George uses high pressure rain water to clean screen printing material
  • Dual flush cisterns are being rolled out across Sydney Institute.
